February 2022 Litter Pick
Another great turn out for our monthly litter pick – 15 of us all together – from Sally’s grandaughter our youngest member at about 8 up to Alun our oldest member at over 90 – a great team one and all.
There was loads of the usual fast-food detritus around the car park and plenty of gas canisters and paraphernalia used by mis-guided teenagers – there was also an abandoned chiminea which will bring a couple of quid from the scrap merchant we take our scrap metal to.
On the opposite side of the road from the car park we decided to pick up the fly tip that has been there a couple of months – it consisted of a great deal of ordinary household waste – lots of metal in the form of tin cans but lots of kitchen utensils including a microwave and toaster – lots of clothing – all burnt. A new fly tip consisted of a mattress and a large bag of potatoes – don’t even try to explain that one.
Last month there was a lot of paperwork evidence amongst the fly tip of who it might have belonged to – but that was now gone – we had reported this to the council so I assume it had been collected by them in order to chase the culprits. But it was a sad sounding story because there was a lot of legal type papers concerning a divorce, child access, drug taking, mental health and other misdemeanours. I’m not excusing the perpetrators’ behaviour in choosing to dump their rubbish illegally but it comes as a stark illustration that there are many people out there who need our care, understanding and indeed, help.
All together we gathered over 40 bags of rubbish – and there was plenty of stuff we couldn’t bag up – so I must send loads of thanks to our members for sacrificing their Sunday morning to get out and try to make things better for others to enjoy.
Here’s a few photos to show the before during and after of the event:
